Melatonin:
Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that declines as we
age. It is commonly used as a treatment for insomnia and
jetlag but research shows much more promise for this amazing
supplement.
Animal research has shown that Melatonin may actually extend life
expectancy! In one study, mice that were given Melatonin lived
25% longer than mice that were given a placebo! A potent
antioxidant, it hunts down free radicals, therefore helping to
prevent or delay such disorders as heart disease and cancer. It

ALPHA LIPOIC ACID:

As it enhances the effectiveness of other antioxidants, it has shown some amazing results when combined with Acetyl-l-carnitine as detailed in this story of a 2002 University of California, Berkeley study.
Alpha Lipoic Acid dissolves in both fat and water and can therefore eliminate more free radical scavengers than most common forms of antioxidants, which dissolve in one or the other. It can travel to tissues composed mainly of fat (i.e.The nervous system or brain?) as well as those made mainly of water (i.e. The heart). It appears that the greatest strength of ALA lies in its ability to protect the nervous system and the brain. ALA has been shown to preserve brain function and to improve long term memory.
ALA helps produce energy from protein, carbohydrates and fats consumed from our daily diets, thus indicating the ability for weight loss. Studies now indicate that this supplement also holds promise in the treatment of various disorders, including, liver ailments, diabetes, glaucoma, HIV, and macular degeneration.
Dosage: 100 mg. twice daily ; 200 mg. 3 X daily for Diabetic Neuropathy.
Contraindications: People with diabetes should consult with their health care provider before taking this supplement as it has been associated with Hypoglycemia.
PHOSPHATIDYLSERINE:
Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a vital component of neural cell membranes whose levels may decrease in middle age and can cause a diminishment of mental function and memory. Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a naturally occurring chemical in the brain, is an amino acid neurotransmitter that helps to keep stress-related nerve impulses under control. A lack of this chemical can cause Anxiety, insomnia, panic disorder and insomnia. GABA is a trusted and effective tranquilizer.
GABA assists in promoting relaxation and a general feeling of well-being. Most pharmaceutical anxiety medications, such as Valium, target GABA receptors in the brain, but unlike prescription tranquilizers, Gaba is not habit forming.
Dosage: 500 mg. to 1500 mg. daily.
Contraindications: Larger than recommended doses can lead to increased anxiety, numbness in the mouth and tingling in the extremities. Consult your doctor before using this supplement for serious conditions such as Epilepsy.
ACETYL-L-CARNITINE:
Acetyl-l-carnitine (ALC). Without enough of this amino acid to actively
move fatty acids to the right location, where they are converted into
energy that the heart, muscles and other tissues can use, your body
will eventually wear down. You may feel tired and worn out. ALC is a
compound that helps the body to produce energy and increase vitality.
ALC enhances the effectiveness of other antioxidants and therefore
cannot be discounted as a preventative measure against heart disease
and other detrimental disorders. It protects the body and brain from
the damaging affects of stress and free radical scavengers. ALC ,
together with Alpha Lipoic Acid, has received a lot of press lately
as being a major factor in promoting rejuvenation in the brain.

process in the brain. As an
energy enhancing supplement, its effectiveness appears to be most
